About the Paul J. Gutman Library (click to enlarge photo)

Gutman Library was built in 1992 to replace the Pastore Library (now the Architecture & Design School). The architectural firm of Shelpley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott, a noted library design firm, designed the facility. The building contains over 54,000 square feet of space. In 1993, the library received the Louis I. Kahn Award for the best-designed academic building from National School and University, a national publication. Here are some features of the facility:

  • over 400 individual study spaces at carrels and tables
  • 5 group study rooms
  • Media Classroom with state-of-the-art presentation support
  • Internet workstations and lab computers
  • Study room 101 features a 42" flat panel monitor for group work and viewing DVDs

GROUP STUDY ROOMS
The library has five group study rooms that accommodate two to six people. These rooms are equipped with table and chairs, power outlets and blackboards. Students or faculty who need a private place for study and discussion may request a key at the Check-Out desk. These rooms are available on a first come, first served basis and a current ID card is required. The rooms may be used for up to four hours. For more information about alumni access to group study rooms see our alumni services page.
