1995 MBA graduate Virginia (Ginny) P. Barakat is the vice president of Human Resources for Independence Blue Cross (IBC), the Philadelphia region's largest health insurer with more than 3.4 million members and nearly 9,500 employees. She is responsible for all facets of HR management, including compensation, performance, talent acquisition, training and development, organizational effectiveness and internal communications. Her affiliation with Philadelphia University continues today. Ginny is currently a member the Executive Committee of the School of Business Administration Advisory Board. In this position, she frequently mentors students, consults with business school faculty, and serves as keynote speaker to leadership classes. Featured in Philadelphia University’s MBA advertising campaign, Ginny volunteered to appear in ads in regional newspapers and on the university’s website as an example of a busy executive, wife, and mother who succeeded in achieving an advanced degree. Ginny also serves on Philadelphia University’s Alumni Leadership Council (and former Alumni Board), where she helped to create and develop the Time, Talent & Treasure Award of which, ironically, she is the 2008 recipient. Through her corporate contacts, she has generously supported the past Time, Talent & Treasure Award events serving as event chair in 2002 and 2004. During Reunion & Homecoming weekend 2005, Ginny won the Dr. William H. Hughes ’33 Memorial award, for her commitment to the advancement of scholarship and human development at Philadelphia University. Click here to see Barakat's full bio. |
